Where

We have chosen to paint in Guimarães, the cradle of Portugal with its UNESCO World Heritage historic center and medieval landscapes, because it offers the perfect setting for outdoor painting courses. Its tranquil squares, imposing castle and the palace of the Dukes of Bragança provide unparalleled artistic inspiration, making Guimarães a living canvas for art enthusiasts. Moreover, Guimarães is only 45 minutes away from Porto and allows us to take advantage of its logistics and enjoy a few days in Porto as well.

About Porto and Guimarães

Porto and Guimarães are two iconic gems in northern Portugal, each with its own history and beauty that resonate with the nation's origins. Porto, known for its spectacular Dom Luís I bridge spanning the Douro River and its port wine cellars, combines ancient architecture with vibrant contemporary life.

On the other hand, Guimarães, often referred to as the cradle of Portugal, offers a window into the country's medieval past with its impressive 10th century castle and the palace of the Dukes of Bragança. Its historic center, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is filled with charming squares, ancient churches and traditional houses, evoking the rich history of where the Portuguese nation was born. Together, Porto and Guimarães encapsulate the essence of Portuguese heritage, from its deep historical roots to its flourishing present.

How to get to Porto

Porto is a very well connected city nationally and internationally by train, air and road.
Travelers can fly directly into Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport, take a train from major cities in Portugal and Spain, or drive along the scenic coastal roads that offer breathtaking views of the Portuguese countryside.
